Abstract
Smart retinas are devices including on a single chip optical sensors and computing facilities. This proximity provides advantages for compactness and communication speed between transducer matrix and on-chip processing units. This paper presents the retina concept, control and programmation aspects of the device designed in our laboratory, and a few algorithm considerations. The hardware is based on a VLSI retina chip containing a 65x76 mesh array of boolean processors.
